Introduction
Hilti is committed to digital accessibility and inclusivity for all users. Our goal is to provide a seamless experience on our E-Commerce platform, Hilti Online, for every customer, including those with disabilities.
This accessibility statement covers the features of Hilti Online that we have implemented to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA and the EN 301 549 European accessibility standard, ensuring broad usability.
We continuously improve accessibility and review this statement regularly as we introduce enhancements and new features to Hilti Online.
Service overview of Hilti Online
Hilti Online serves as the central digital portal for construction professionals, offering a comprehensive catalog of high-performance tools and systems—such as power tools, anchoring, measuring, fire protection, and specialized chemicals. It provides integrated suite of professional services, including Fleet Management, specialized engineering consultation, and safety and technical training.
How to use Hilti Online
Hilti Online is designed to be simple and accessible for everyone. Here’s an overview of how to navigate and use the platform:
Login & Support: Sign in to your account from the top menu or contact our support team for personalized assistance.
Navigation: Use the main menu at the top of each page to access Products, Solutions, the Engineering Center (a collaborative space for technical advice), Support resources and Downloads, and Company information. Keyboard users can navigate links and buttons with Tab and activate items with Enter. A visible focus indicator highlights your current position.
Search and Product Info: Use the search bar at the top to find products. Suggestions appear as you type and can be navigated with arrow keys. Each product page includes a title, image, and description. All images have text alternatives for screen readers.
Accounts and Checkout: Creating an account involves filling a form with clear labels and instructions. If a required field is missed, an error message appears and is announced to screen readers. Checkout is divided into steps: Shopping cart → Billing information → Order summary, navigable via “Next” and “Back” buttons.

Accessibility compliance
Hilti Online has been assessed against the European Accessibility Act’s requirements and ensured it meets them:
Perceivable:
Text alternatives are provided for all non-text content (images, icons, media).
Pages use a logical structure with headings and lists for screen reader navigation.
Content adapts to different screen sizes without losing functionality.
Sufficient colour contrast is maintained for text and key visuals.
Audio content includes controls for volume and playback (none plays automatically).
Operable:
All features are accessible via keyboard (or keyboard-like assistive tech).
Visible focus indicators and ARIA landmarks support navigation.
No keyboard traps; users can freely move through all components.
No flashing or blinking content is used.
Standard shortcuts (e.g., arrow keys in dropdowns) work without interfering with assistive technology.
Understandable:
Content is written in clear, simple language.
Instructions and error messages are straightforward.
Layout and navigation remain consistent across the site.
Pages have proper titles and logical focus order.
Robust:
Built using HTML5 and ARIA techniques for compatibility with modern browsers and assistive technologies.
Tested with screen readers, magnifiers, and high-contrast modes.
Code follows WCAG and EN 301 549 best practices to ensure long-term accessibility as technology evolves.
Adherence to harmonized standards (EN 301 549 and WCAG 2.1 AA) satisfies the "presumption of conformity" principle established in EU law.
Ongoing monitoring and maintenance
Accessibility is an ongoing commitment. Here’s how we ensure Hilti Online remains accessible:
Dedicated Accessibility Team: Reviews new features or significant changes for accessibility impacts before release.
Training: Software engineers and content creators receive regular training on accessibility best practices.
Testing: Automated tools are integrated into development process to detect common issues early, complemented by manual checks.
Regular Audits: Internal audits precede annual external audits by specialized vendors.
Findings from all audits are documented and resolved promptly.
Continuous Improvement: Accessibility considerations are embedded in our product roadmap to ensure compliance as the platform evolves.
Through these measures, Hilti Online not only meets current accessibility requirements but continues to improve over time.
Known limitations and alternatives
We are not aware of major areas of Hilti Online that are inaccessible. All key features have been implemented to meet required standards. However, a few limitations remain:
Third-Party Content: Some embedded tools, such as the product used for contact forms, may not fully meet accessibility standards because they are outside our direct control. We are migrating this content to a new technology that complies with accessibility requirements. If this poses a problem, you can request an alternative plain-text version of the forms.
Third-Party Calendar Plugins: The date selection component implemented across the majority of Hilti Online forms currently utilizes the Bootstrap library. This third-party calendar plugin lacks the necessary customization required to achieve optimal visual contrast. We have included its replacement in our medium-term roadmap.
Video Captions or Transcriptions: Some video content does not yet include captions or transcriptions that accurately reflect the narrator’s speech. We are actively working to provide full captioning and transcription for all videos.
We will update this statement as these issues are resolved. While full compliance is an ongoing goal, we are committed to continuous improvement and actively addressing any remaining gaps.
